Chikmagalur Coffee

Chikmagalur, in Karnataka, is known as the birthplace of coffee in India. The story goes back to the 17th century when a Sufi saint, Baba Budan, secretly brought 7 coffee beans from Yemen and planted them in the Baba Budan Giri hills. That’s how coffee cultivation started in India. Chikmagalur has ideal natural conditions:

  • Located in the Western Ghats

  • Cool climate + heavy rainfall

  • Rich, fertile soil

  • High altitude

These factors are perfect for growing high-quality Arabica coffee, which needs shade and specific temperatures.

Green Coffee Beans for International Import :

Green coffee beans are the most common format for bulk organic coffee exports. These are unroasted beans that buyers roast after import. Green beans have a longer shelf life and are easier to store and ship.

Importers and roasters prefer green coffee beans because they allow control over roast profiles and freshness. Green coffee beans are packed in bulk bags and loaded into containers for export.

Benefits of green coffee beans for bulk buyers include:

  1. Longer storage life compared to roasted coffee

  2. Lower risk of flavor loss during transit

  3. Flexibility for different roast styles

  4. Easier compliance with import regulations

Green coffee beans bulk orders are standard for large scale import and wholesale trade.

Roasted Coffee Beans for Wholesale Distribution

Some buyers choose organic roasted coffee beans for wholesale distribution. This option suits private labels, cafes, hotels, and retail chains that do not roast in house.

Roasted coffee exports require careful packaging to preserve freshness. Exporters must control roast consistency and pack beans in suitable materials.

Roasted coffee beans wholesale supply often includes:

  • Standard roast profiles based on buyer needs

  • Bulk packaging or branded packs for resale

  • Clear labeling for organic compliance

  • Shorter transit and delivery timelines

This format is less common than green beans but useful for specific wholesale markets.

India’s Export Arabica category evolved alongside the country’s rise as a reliable supplier of clean, stable, and well-processed Arabica for international buyers. As global markets began demanding consistency in bean size, moisture, and defect levels, Indian exporters developed a grading framework—Plantation and Arabica Cherry grades—that allowed roasters to procure predictable coffees season after season.

Historically, Export Arabicas were favored for their combination of sweetness, chocolate depth, low acidity, and forgiving roast behavior. These characteristics made them ideal for European, Middle Eastern, and Asian buyers who needed coffees that could stabilize blends or serve as approachable single origins without excessive acidity.

Over decades, estates refined selective harvesting, improved sorting systems, and adopted uniform washing or natural drying practices. This established India’s Export Arabica reputation as one of the most dependable green-coffee categories in the world—cleaner than many naturals, sweeter than many washed origins, and consistently reliable for medium-scale and large-scale roasteries.

Today, Export Arabica Coffee remains a foundational choice for importers, roasters, capsule manufacturers, and industrial coffee applications seeking quality, value, and predictable cup performance.

Why Rosters Choose Export Arabica Coffee

Cup Profile (Typical Notes)

  • chocolate & cocoa

  • caramel sweetness

  • roasted almonds

  • soft citrus or fruit lift

  • smooth, clean finish

  • medium body with balanced acidity

(Flavors vary slightly by grade—washed Arabicas are brighter and cleaner; naturals are richer and more chocolate-forward.)

Why Roasters Love It

  • Predictable roasting behavior across washed and natural grades

  • Reliable moisture and density simplify batch planning

  • Versatile flavour structure appeals to broad global audiences

  • Excellent for blends, adding sweetness, stability, and chocolate depth

  • Uniform bean screening ensures consistent heat transfer

  • Stable availability across seasons and estates

  • Performs well in multiple roast levels, especially medium

  • Cost-efficient compared to Central American or African Arabicas

  • Ideal for capsules and industrial applications due to clarity and smoothness

Export Arabica Speciality Coffee Flavor Journey

Expect a balanced, harmonious cup shaped by India’s biodiverse shade-grown systems. Export Arabicas typically express medium body, soft acidity, and a warm sweetness anchored in chocolate, nuts, and caramel. Washed grades (Plantation A/AA/AAA) offer more clarity and citrus brightness, while natural grades (Arabica Cherry A/AA/AAA) deliver richer chocolate tones and gentle fruit hints.

At light to medium roasts, expect:

  • cocoa

  • soft citrus

  • delicate florals

  • clean sweetness

At medium roasts (most common for export buyers):

  • chocolate

  • caramel

  • balanced nutty tones

At medium-dark roasts:

  • deeper cocoa

  • mild spice

  • rounder, heavier sweetness

Export Arabica behaves consistently across roast profiles, making it a favorite for both everyday blends and refined specialty programs.
